1924 Bing Auto Garage with Clockwork Limousine & Roadster
Awesome, early pre-war tin litho Auto-Garage with clockwork Limousine and Roadster. Both vehicles have their original identical drivers. Manufactured by Bing (Germany). Grades excellent+ overall with all original paint and parts. Set was dated using a 1924 Bing Catalog (see last photo). This particular set was listed for only one year. The set has provenance from the famed Donal Markey collection sold by Bertoia Auctions. It was one of the few toys which was not cast iron. Limousine 5-3 16" long (130mm), deep olive green body, black frame, running boards, roof w side panels, front grille, head lamps, door and hood trim, gold highlighting on doors and hood. Raised embossed doors and hood. Three dimensional driver integrated with steering wheel wears an orange overcoat and cap, black trim & black mustache. Gray spoke wheels. Attached key with triple gear clockwork motor; works beautifully. Front axle can be positioned to turn to the right. Stamped "Made In Germany" on underside. Roadster 6" long (150mm)- scarlet red body, black frame, running boards, roof or rear cowl, floorboards, radiator, head lamps, door and front hood trim. Interior walls and seat cushions are a pumpkin-like color. Spoke metal wheels are "coffee with cream" color. Gold highlights on doors and hood which are also raised embossed. Driver, key and clockwork motor are identical to limo. Stamped "Made In Germany" on underside. Front axle can be positioned to turn right. Auto-Garage - all tin litho rectangular building with arced roof and locking airplane-hanger style doors. Two die cut windows on both sides. Front center has an upright support which separates the two bays, strengthens the roof, and allows the doors to stay closed. Lithoed with red brick and gray girders on the sides. Green white wood patterned doors have wide brown hinges (made to appear like cast iron). Left door has original handle with locking tab. Interior and underside is solid black. 4-way partitioned roof with skylight design and rivet around the edges. Center line of roof (both horizontal and vertical) is embossed.
